“Worst Governor in America”;  Ohio lawmakers react after DeWine vetoes transgender youth bill

Ohio lawmakers have been vocal about their reactions to the governor. Mike DeWine vetoed House Bill 68 on Friday.

The controversial bill sought to ban gender-specific care for minors and ban transgender athletes from playing girls’ and women’s sports.

State representative. Jena Powell (R-Arcanum) shared an article on her social media about DeWine’s announcement with the headline “Worst Governor in America.”

Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) said he was “extremely disappointed” in DeWine’s decision and would “hope it is overruled.”

State Senator Niraj Antani (R-Miamisburg) called on the Ohio House of Representatives and Senate to return “immediately” tonight to vote on overriding DeWine’s veto.

State Senator Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood) issued a statement saying, “I applaud the Governor for his due diligence and judgment in the decision to veto House Bill 68, which would give parents their would have taken rights.”

State Sen. Bill DeMora (D-Columbus) said he was glad the governor “chose to listen to the science and the people.”
