Suspect arrested in alleged attempted murder in Marysville

Sept. 12—Marysville Police Department officials said Tuesday that a suspect was arrested Monday in Roseville following an incident earlier this month in which a Yuba City man allegedly shot another man in Marysville .

According to Marysville Police Lt. Adam Barber, officers responded to the 700 block of 6th Street in Marysville on September 4 at approximately 7:25 p.m. for a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, a 40-year-old victim was lying in his neighbor’s apartment with a gunshot wound to the shoulder and chest, Barber said.

Marysville Fire Department and Bi-County Ambulance personnel provided emergency medical care to the victim, Barber said. The victim was later transported to the hospital, where he is currently in an intensive care unit.

Barber said the man suspected of shooting the victim, 34-year-old Homero Israel Novoa Carrasco of Yuba City, fled the area in his vehicle before officers arrived.

“During the investigation, officers identified identifying information and probable cause for the arrest of Carrasco, which led to the issuance of a Ramey arrest warrant,” Barber said in a statement.

About 3:45 p.m. Monday, Placer County Sheriff’s Department deputies located Carrasco in the 10400 block of Fairway Drive in Roseville and detained him, Barber said.

“It was determined that Carrasco was in possession of 96 grams of fentanyl,” Barber said. “Marysville Police Department detectives met with officers and took Carrasco into custody.”

Carrasco was extradited to the Yuba County Jail on charges of attempted homicide, shooting into an inhabited dwelling and endangering children. Carrasco was in custody Tuesday at the Yuba County Jail with no bond set.

Barber told the appeals court that an investigation is underway to determine the motive for the alleged shooting.
