Smash Mouth frontman Steve Harwell is in hospice care, a spokesman said

Former Smash Mouth lead singer Steve Harwell is receiving hospice care at home, a spokesperson confirmed to CBS News Sunday.

The artist — whose band is known for hits like “All Star” and “Walkin’ on the Sun” — is under the care of his fiance, according to spokesman Robert Hayes.

“My only additional comment is that we hope the public respects Steve and his family’s privacy during this difficult time,” Hayes told CBS News.

Harwell was in the past Suffering from cardiomyopathyA form of heart disease.

Smash Mouth was formed in 1994. Harwell remained with the band until his retirement in 2021. According to Smash Mouth’s website, Jack Goode became the band’s frontman last year. The band is also known for their cover of Monkey’s classic “I’m a Believer”.

The band has yet to publicly comment on Harwell’s condition.
