Oprah Winfrey recently admitted that she has never experienced “impostor syndrome” in her life, and therefore it is an alien concept to her.

While promoting his new book with co-author Arthur S. Brooks, Build the Life You Want: The Art and Science of Becoming HappierWinfrey said PEOPLE“I don’t have any of the impostor feelings that so many people have.”

“I didn’t even realize it, I had to look it up,” the 69-year-old continued.

The former talk show host revealed that due to her upbringing, she was not aware of this concept.

“I remember as a young girl I was a strong speaker in the national speaking competition and won the local championships, then the state championships. And then, qualifying, I think it was No. 3 or something in the nationals,” Winfrey recalled.

She mentioned, “I remember after every race the families whose kids had just competed would celebrate and all their families were excited. My father’s question was “Get your coat.”

Winfrey revealed, “Over all these years, I’ve learned that every exciting thing that happened to me was always, that’s okay, take your coat. Get your coat.

“I don’t know if it’s ingrained in my personality or if I’ve just learned that nobody’s going to be excited about it, so you might as well just grab your coat and go,” the broadcaster pointed out.

Winfrey added, “I don’t have high highs and I don’t have low lows. Which is a good thing, because no matter what I’m going through, I know I’m going to get out of it and be okay.”

“That’s why,” Winfrey noted, “I value the ability to live in a space of true appreciation for a life not just well lived, but well earned.”
