Arnold Schwarzenegger was not the original actor for the classic role in James Cameron’s The Terminator.

OJ Simpson was chosen by director James Cameron to play the cyborg, and Arnie was chosen to play the rebel “Kyle Reese”.

However, Arnie, 76, claims he showed “too much enthusiasm” for the time-traveling killer.

“I think OJ Simpson has been cast, he’s not under contract yet, but he’s already cast as the Terminator,” the actor told Insane podcast.

“So Cameron was trying to get me to play the Terminator and I said, ‘No, I want to play Reese.’

“He said, ‘No, you understand the Terminator,'” he added.

He also explained how the director convinced him for the role.

“You talk about how he has to walk and turn his head like a machine,” he recalled, when Cameron told him, “That’s exactly what he has to do.”

“Anyway, he convinced me,” the former California governor concluded.

The 1984 film made over $78 million at the box office and inspired numerous sequels.

Former American football player Simpson was acquitted in 1995 of the deaths of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman in Los Angeles.

He was eventually held responsible for their untimely deaths in a civil suit.
