The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office reported that one person died in a shed fire in Yucca on Wednesday evening.

On Wednesday around 8:13 p.m., police were called to a fire at the intersection of South La Cienega Ranch Road and Alamo Road. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered two sheds fully engulfed in flames, according to a news release from the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.

Firefighters from the Golden Valley Fire District immediately responded to the scene and successfully extinguished the flames. During their operations, they discovered a deceased victim in one of the sheds, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office confirmed in the news release.

Officers contacted the homeowner, who told them that she and her roommate had gotten into a verbal argument earlier in the evening, after which he left the home on foot. She later received an alert from her camera system about movement near the shed, leading her to believe her roommate had returned to the house. Another alert 30 minutes later informed them of movement in the shed, according to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office news release.

MCSO mentioned that an initial examination of camera footage from the home revealed no obvious signs of crime. All available footage is currently being reviewed for possible evidence. The deceased victim is currently being examined by the coroner’s office to determine the cause of death through an autopsy and to ensure positive identification.

The investigation is ongoing, MCSO said.
